Hello Mighty Readers!
Happy Friday. Crazy how February’s flying by like a well thrown Frisbee.
Great line-up today –
BEGINNING WITH:
STEPHANIE’S CHIC ON THE CHEAP
WOW! Check out the one-of-a-kind chair we can all build/create. Chic on the Cheap DIY!
No two will be alike! Custom pieces of art created by you and me for sitting and hanging out purposes. Eclectic rules.
First, Steph gives tips on where to find an inexpensive vintage chair (and give it a 2nd time around sort of thing) + finding the belts at thrift stores (another 2nd time around sort of coolness) and then how to assemble.
I am so gonna build one for my home. I’m actually thinking of perhaps building several to put around my outside table for the summer time.
Steph gives us the step-by-step where to find and how to. Once again – Steph presents a fabulous idea and we can all run with it and create with confidence. Love it!
Thanks, Steph!
QUICK QUESTION
If I had the power to change one thing about my personality – hands down – would be patience. I know that I have less than a lot of patience sometimes. Wish I had it all the time. Perhaps, I’ll strive for it a little harder. What’s your one thing?
VEGETABLE GARDEN
As many of us are thinking/preparing for tilling up dirt in the garden to plant stuff – I love this story’s analogy of daily living. Totally spot on.
JERRY’S GOULASH RECIPE
This recipe came to mind as I feel winter getting ready to wave bye-bye. Nothing fancy about it — but it sure is memorable and delicious. Plus, as I eat each spoonful will bring back memories of my dad. Perhaps, goulash has a memory or two to you, as well. Not something I eat often – delightful and a happy skip down memory lane. Especially dipping buttered, garlic bread with every other bite!
THANKS
For sliding by and hanging out with us today. Trust that you’ll enjoy the read as much as we have enjoyed assembling this 5 for FRIDAY episode.

THE PERFECT COOL CHAIR
Hello Friends!
So — I love a cool piece of antique furniture here and there in my home. I also like to pair them with something kind of funky so my house doesn’t look too dated.
As you will see in Pic #1 – I have a lovely little desk that belonged to my grandmother. I remember seeing her sitting at that little desk writing letters and cards to her friends in her cute little glasses.
The desk stays but I’ve never been crazy about the chair sitting next to it. I don’t hate the chair and I do love the fabric; so I’ve been thinking one day I will find the perfect funky chair to replace it.
Well, I found it and I am going to make it!
I searched Facebook Marketplace and found several chairs at a great price that will work! I’m looking for vintage wood chairs not white wood like in the picture.
Now, I need to hit the thrift stores and find about 20 belts. They are usually under a dollar each.
As you will see in Pic #2 the belts are woven together for the seat. I will attach the belts on the inner underneath side of the seat frame with a heavy duty staple/nail gun. My hubby has the perfect tool for this project. It is a finish nail gun/staple gun. I’ll see what works best — nails or staples and let you know in a future column along with a picture of my new funky made by ME chair!
Can’t wait to visit my favorite thrifty’s and search for cool belts and whatever other treasures I might come across.

JERRY’S GOULASH
Jerry is my dad.
He was by no stretch of the imagination a chef or cook in the kitchen. However, he had 3 specialties and they were all awesome – at least as kids we sure thought so. Those being: Goulash + Giant subs made with a large french bread loaf – sliced horizontally – layered with the packaged variety of Oscar Mayer Bologna, Cotto Salami, Ham and then layers of sliced cheese, mustard, mayo, lettuce and tomato (mind you, way before sub shops found their way to our little place in the world called Montana) AND! hand-squeezed oranges and lemons to make orange lemonade in the heat of the summer.
Here’s his recipe for Goulash!
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 pounds of ground beef
- 2 large yellow onions, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 cups water
- 2 – 15 ounce cans tomato sauce
- 2 – 15 ounce cans diced tomatoes
- 4 TBSP Italian seasoning
- 1 TBSP garlic powder
- 2 TBSP soy sauce
- 2 TBSP seasoned salt (think Lawry’s)
- 2 TBSP ground pepper
- 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
DIRECTIONS:
In a large soup pot, saute the ground beef over medium-high heat until well cooked. Break up the meat while sauteing, spooning off any grease that floats to the surface with a wooden spoon.
Add chopped onions, minced garlic to the pot and continue to simmer until onions and garlic are tender — about 10 minutes — stirring frequently.
ADD:
Water, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, soy sauce, Lawry’s seasoned salt and pepper. Stir well. Place lid on soup pot and allow to cook for about 20 minutes — checking on it and stirring occasionally.
NOW:
Stir in the 2 cups of elbow macaroni and stir all really well until well combined. Place the lid back on the pot and simmer for about 30 minutes.
AFTER 30 MINUTES:
Turn off burner heat, stir and allow mixture to sit on the stove about another 30 minutes – lid on.
SERVE:
Spoon into soup bowls with giant slices of garlic bread on the side.
(Totally feel free to jazz-it-up with chili powder, canned-diced green chiles, extra salt and or pepper)

Stephanie, how timely you were in suggesting ideas for old belts! I’m on it. I have the perfect chair needing belts located at our front door. I have numerous belts that are race ready for the renovation. As for the nail gun, that will be our good neighbor’s offering for exchange of homemade cookies. I love Daymaker. That’s where i find the good stuff.
Marty, you are so right – Daymaker is where to find the good stuff!!!
