Hola!
Bonjour!
Howdy!

Hello Friday and outstanding readers!

Super BLAST of cool today beginning with:

STACY’S WORLD
WOW!  GULP + YIKES!
What an adventure week vacation Stacy and her husband had in Arizona.
I love the back stories of the town, Jerome, and the cool shops/galleries she writes about.  Specifically, Pura Vida Gallery!  Fascinating and Intriguing.  Totally on my bucket list!

Super excited to learn what Stacy’s next column will be about regarding the most unique and interesting piece she found that WE can re-create.  Hello!

Thanks, Stacy!

QUICK QUESTION
Truth or Dare?
That’s a tough answer for me – depending on the question, I guess.
But I think I’d roll with Truth because the Dare could be outlandish.  Ha!!

SIMPLE FRIEND vs REAL FRIEND
Is straight-up beautiful and TRUTH about friendship.

TACO BURGERS
Well, sometimes I just get in the mood for something not-so-fancy-shmancy and I go skipping down childhood memory lane and these Taco Burgers are the ticket!

THANKS
All for popping in and giving us a read + spreading the love + commenting.

HERE WE GO!

STACY’S WORLD

Hello Friends!

Last week my husband and I took a week off and went to Arizona to visit our adorable kids and grand-kids.  We usually stay in Sedona when go to visit but this time we stayed in Jerome, AZ  (one of the top 10 most haunted towns in the United States).

My stepson used to do the ghost tours on weekends there so we had our own personal tour guide.

The history of this town is so creepy and interesting.  There have even been several TV shows about the hauntings in Jerome.

Beginning with the catastrophic fires and violent deaths from the town’s early days which have led to Jerome’s “ghost town” status.  Over the years there have been many accounts of ghosts and apparitions that roam through the town’s historic buildings.

Jerome had a population of 15,000 at one time and its main industry was copper mining.  Jerome housed the main hospital in the area — so surrounding towns frequented Jerome.

The downtown area of Jerome was also considered the City of Sin because of the numerous brothels and gambling establishments.

Jerome was built in the late 1800’s and was a really sinister and rough place until the late 1930’s.  In fact, every sheriff that was there at that time was murdered.  ((Search the hauntings and history of Jerome on-line because there are so many crazy stories.))

I will share my favorite story told by our handsome tour guide (stepson):
The smaller surrounding towns despised Jerome because of all the prostitution and gambling.  They attempted 3 times to burn down – downtown Jerome.  The first attempt was unexpected and a lot of damage was done to the downtown area.  The most famous brothel,  the “Cat House” was one of the brothels they managed to burn to the ground.  The “Cat House” was known as having the most exquisite prostitutes ($2/visit.  Other brothels were 50 cents/visit).
The owner and manager, Madame Beatrice, rebuilt her famous brothel – the”Cat House”.
When rumors began that the surrounding towns were going to attempt a 2nd burning, Madame Beatrice went straight to the fire department and said, “… protect my brothel this time and you will all get free services for life.”  That brothel still stands proud today.

The rooms are Airbnb rentals along with about 10 other brothels that still stand.  We actually stayed in one of the other brothels’ Airbnb rental apartments.  The brothels exteriors are still in the original form with the huge balconies that you just imagine the women strutting around on.

Most of the buildings that house fabulous restaurants, galleries and specialty shops are from the early 1900’s.

I had a few afternoons to myself there while my husband was golfing with his sons.

So, I took my sweet time exploring all the shops and galleries and loved every minute of it.

My favorite gallery which specialized in copper pieces and blown glass graciously allowed me to take photos to share with you all.  The owner is a really cool lady and her prices are way better than what you will find in the galleries in Sedona.

The following pics show:

  • I love the blown glass mushroom yard art!
  • The copper platters are fabulous!
  • The stained glass pieces are breathtaking!
  • The last photo is a copper snake.  I am not a fan of snakes but this little dude is just so cute and had the sweetest little face. The gallery name is Pura Vida Gallery.  She has an on-line store www.puravidagalleryjerome.com
Check out her store for a special gift for yourself or a friend.

I highly recommend if you are in the area of Arizona to take a day and visit Jerome and definitely take the ghost tour!

My next column will be about the most unique and interesting piece I found in Jerome and how to make it yourself.

See ya in a few weeks.
Happy Friday!

QUICK QUESTION
TRUTH
OR
DARE?

A REAL FRIEND VS A SIMPLE FRIEND

  • A simple friend, when visiting acts like a guest.
A real friend opens your refrigerator and helps himself.
  • A simple friend has never seen you cry.
A real friend has shoulders soggy from your tears.
  • A simple friend doesn’t know your family’s names.
A real friend has their phone numbers in their address book/phone.
  • A simple friend brings a bottle of wine to your party.
A real friend comes early to help you cook and stays late to help you clean.
  • A simple friend hates it when you call after he’s gone to bed.
A real friend asks why it took you so long to call.
  • A simple friend seeks to talk with you about your problems.
A real friend seeks to help you with your problems.
  • A simple friend wonders about your romantic history.
A real friend could blackmail you with it.
  • A simple friend thinks the friendship is over when you have an argument.
A real friend calls you after a fight.
  • A simple friend expects you to be there for them.
A real friend expects to always be there for you.

Do  you remember when Taco Bell offered Taco Burgers on their menu?  I do.  And I was a fan.  This is pretty close to how I remember it.

  1.  1 1/2 pounds of ground beef (think 80/20)
  2. 1 package of favorite taco seasoning
  3. 1/2 cup water
  4. 4 – 5 good quality hamburger buns, buttered and toasted
  5. Shredded lettuce
  6. Sliced fresh tomato
  7. Shredded Cheddar or American cheese slices

TIME TO PREPARE AND ASSEMBLE

  • Brown ground beef in a skillet.  Drain.
  • Add taco seasoning and water and cook over medium-high heat for about 15 minutes, stirring frequently.
  • Put a scoop of taco meat on toasted buns.
  • Top with cheese, shredded lettuce and tomato slices

SERVE WITH

Fresh, diced fruit.  Watermelon chunks are my preference!

I’ve always had a fascination for ghosts and Stacy’s tales of Jerome’s history and ghostly encounters are totally intriguing, as are her photos. Such unique finds. Hmmm. Is there a trip in my future. . .?

“Truth” for me as well. And for pretty much the same reason 😉

I don’t remember taco burgers but these sound good enough and simple enough to try. Soon!

Thanks, DayMaker, for a great lead-in to a welcome holiday weekend. Have a good one!!!

      Hey Carol –

I know, right, regarding Stacy’s column? Fascinating history + super unique finds makes me want to plan a trip sometime! Maybe one October – right around Halloween time. Ha

We sure are grateful for reading us + taking the love and time to comment in your really cool, laid-back writing style.

      HAPPINESS

Note to Stacy regarding her trip: I’ll take Stacy’s copper platters and the stained glass pieces please!

As for the snake, NOOoooo thank you. All snakes scare me.

    Here’s my recent story:
My friends with 4 sons invited me to their home for a BBQ just two weeks ago to celebrate one of their son’s engagement. Understand I’ve been in their home dozens of times — but never until that night at their table did the fact slip out,
“Oh yes, we’ve had a boa constrictor in our home for years.”

I’m certain Steve did a little kick under the table to his wife’s ankle. I had a dozen questions but I refrained from saying any.
    Why?

I was afraid if I got involved in conversation that I would have nightmares. Fortunately the topic changed quickly, the evidence of the kick!
I forced myself to appear unalarmed, but I will admit, I was the first to leave. ha

I’m with you regarding snakes. I have a healthy respect for them but have NO desire to have them anywhere near me, even in pictures or as art objects.
