HELLO FRIDAY AND HELLO FRIENDS
FROM CHERYL CLARSON
And it’s a Friday the 13th. I’d never really given 2 thoughts about a Friday the 13th until I had one that will always be in my memory. You can read it in my meet-and-greet in the ABOUT page on this site. Anyway, you?
Line up for this 5 for Friday is stellar!
Beginning with Stephanie’s Chic on the Cheap. Gosh, Steph has it going on with her fabulous insider tips. Thanks, Steph!
Quick Question – Do I personally believe in ghosts? Not necessarily – but I don’t not-believe in them either! I hope one doesn’t ever present itself front-and-center to prove one way or the other. To my knowledge, I’ve never fainted, but pretty sure I would in such a situation. Ha
18 Thoughts is a super cool list. I don’t have a favorite take away. All are such valuable wisdom.
Rockin’ Sausage-Pepper-Onion Subs and Tailgate Taters are … well … rockin’ delicious!
Playlist is handpicked pretty music for our ears. I hope you might take a few minutes to give it a listen – it’s not long – just 5 beautiful songs for thoughtful chill time.
Thanks one and all for sharing a piece of your Friday with us. And for your comments + love + support. Grateful.
Here we go!

CHIC ON THE CHEAP
“COPYCATTING” A COOL LOOK
Hi Ladies –
Do you ever look at some women and think how do their outfits always look so “Put Together”?
Well, let me tell you … it’s all about the little details.
Pic #1
I found this photo of these 3 ladies on-line and I absolutely love every outfit they are wearing. Simple, yet classy.
I’m going to share what I think makes these outfits work so well.
The 1st model is wearing that great white jacket (which I totally want) and paired it perfectly with black-on-black jeans and and top making the white jacket really *pop* with the contrast of color. The skinny jeans with the bulky jacket is also a great contrast.
The skinny jeans with the slim high-heeled pumps really adds to the length of her legs. I think skinny jeans always work best with a slim fitted shoe or boot instead of a clunky shoe. Also, the deep V-Neck top looks great with the longer jacket.
The 2nd model also paired a loose top with a skinny jean giving the outfit a loose to tight contrast. The dark jean gives a stronger color contrast than a light denim jean would.
Again, the slim pointed toe ankle boot is perfect with the skinny jean and the hem just touching the top of the boot is perfect. The shirt she is wearing is a very simple cut without a lot of detail so the long gold necklace is the perfect piece to add and give a little something extra!
The 3rd model is also paired perfectly with the high waist, wide legged jean with the shorter-close-to-the-waist-length jacket.
The shorter jacket gives an instant waistline. The little bag tied around the waist also accentuates the waistline.
I enlarged the photo and saw that she is wearing a pointed shoe or boot. I love the way a pointy toe looks popping out from the bottom of a wide legged jean or pant.
So … this is a lot of detail to think about every time you’re getting dressed.
If putting together outfits is not your thing – just take a photo of any outfit you like and “copy” the look.
In fact, I’m going to do that right now; I’m going to “copycat” the 3rd model’s outfit and post the photo here.
The colors may not be the same but the general cut of the clothes are similar. This is going to be FUN!
SEE PIC #2
BTW – the photo of the 3 models is an advertisement for CLOTHES MENTOR ARLINGTON. I checked out their website and the clothes are really cute and the prices are very reasonable. (( click here to see their site ))
Post me a photo of the outfit you “copycatted” in the comments.

ROCKIN’ SAUSAGE-PEPPER-ONION SUBS
Indeed – I have posted this recipe before – but worthy of a reminder-do-over sort of thing. It’s so good – especially this fall time of year. The recipe calls for Italian sausages but, by all means, use your personal favorite – chicken, beef or a combo … rock it!
HERE’S HOW WE MAKE IT:
- 3 red bell peppers, stemmed, seeded and cut into 1/4″ wide strips
- 2 yellow sweet onions, halved, and sliced 1/4″ thick
- 3 TBSP white vinegar
- 2 TBSP sugar
- 1 TBSP vegetable oil
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground pepper
- 2 pounds sweet Italian sausages
- 6 – 6″ fresh, soft sub rolls
- 1 – 13×9 inch disposable aluminum pan
DIRECTIONS:
TOSS THE BELL PEPPER STRIPS, ONION STRIPS, VINEGAR, SUGAR, OIL, SALT AND PEPPER IN A MICROWAVEABLE BOWL.
MICROWAVE :
COVERED WITH A LOOSE LID OR PLASTIC WRAP – UNTIL VEGETABLES ARE JUST ABOUT TENDER. LIKE 6 MINUTES ON HIGH. POUR VEGETABLES AND ANY ACCUMULATED JUICES INTO DISPOSABLE PAN.
PREPARE:
YOUR GRILL (GAS OR CHARCOAL) ONE SIDE HOTTER THAN THE OTHER.
PLACE:
DISPOSABLE PAN OF PEPPERS AND ONIONS ON HOTTER SIDE OF GRILL. COVER WITH FOIL. LIFT UP THE FOIL AND STIR ABOUT EVERY 8 MINUTES TO KEEP THEM FROM BROWNING TOO MUCH.
LINE UP:
SAUSAGES ON COOLER SIDE OF GRILL AND COOK TO PACKAGE INSTRUCTIONS. (THE EXACT COOKING TIME DEPENDS ON WHAT TYPE OF SAUSAGES YOU ARE GRILLING) – ROLLING THEM AROUND WITH TONGS FREQUENTLY.
WHEN:
SAUSAGES ARE NEARLY COOKED, TRANSFER THEM INTO THE THE DISPOSABLE PAN WITH PEPPERS AND ONIONS.
SLIDE:
DISPOSABLE PAN TO COOLER SIDE OF THE GRILL.
NEXT :
TRANSFER (JUST THE SAUSAGES) TO HOTTER SIDE OF GRILL. COOK SAUSAGES A LITTLE MORE, TURNING OFTEN, UNTIL WELL BROWNED, AND TEMP MEETS 160* OR ACCORDING TO PACKAGE INSTRUCTIONS – LIKE 2-4 MINUTES.
RETURN SAUSAGES :
TO DISPOSABLE PAN WITH PEPPERS AND ONIONS AND TENT WITH ALUMINUM FOIL, AND LET REST FOR 5 OR MORE MINUTES.
EQUALLY DIVIDE :
SAUSAGES AND ONIONS AND PEPPERS AND TUCK INSIDE SPLIT SUB ROLLS.
SERVE!

WAIT! THERE’S ONE MORE!
TAILGATE TATERS
There’s a reason why this tasty, infinitely versatile side or appetizer has enjoyed such popularity. Although it could be dubbed “the appetizer of the ’80’s” don’t hesitate to serve it at a tailgate party (or home get-together) with Rockin’ Sausage-Pepper-Onion subs or all by themselves on a serving platter with something for dipping purposes (think ranch dressing or your favorite).
- 4 large baking potatoes
- 2 TBSP vegetable oil
- 1 TBSP Tabasco sauce
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- salt and pepper to taste
RUB:
CLEANED, UNPEELED POTATOES WITH OIL. PRICK SEVERAL TIMES AROUND EACH WHOLE POTATO WITH A SHARP KNIFE. BAKE AT 425* UNTIL TENDER – ABOUT 45 MINUTES.
REMOVE TATERS FROM OVEN AND LET THEM REST ON THE COUNTER FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES (UNTIL COOL ENOUGH TO HANDLE).
NEXT:
CUT POTATOES INTO QUARTERS – LENGTHWISE.
WITH A SPOON, CAREFULLY REMOVE ALL BUT A THIN LAYER OF PULP FROM POTATO SKINS.
PLACE:
QUARTERED, SCOOPED OUT SHELLS ON AN OILED BAKING SHEET AND BRUSH INSIDES OF SHELLS WITH THE MIXTURE OF TABASCO, BUTTER, SALT AND PEPPER.
POP BACK IN THE OVEN AND BAKE 8-10 MINUTES MORE UNTIL CRISP.
ENJOY AT ROOM TEMP.
(( PRO TIP ))
RESERVE THE SCOOPED OUT PULP IN A LIDDED CONTAINER AND REFRIGERATE FOR ANOTHER NIGHT (SOON) AS A SIDE WITH WHATEVER YOU’RE COOKING THAT NIGHT (BEEF, CHICKEN, FISH OR A SIMPLE LETTUCE SALAD).
** Think mashed potatoes sort of thing – little bit of cream, little bit of butter and a sprinkling of salt and pepper. Mixed all together and zapped in the microwave until warm**.

I loved every inch of today’s Daymaker. Stephanie’s great ideas for ease in getting ready to go into gathering places plus her link to shopping for such items brought ideas. – Then there is the recipe for the bell peppers and onion flavors that I love even if I don’t serve it on bread. – Then the list of 18 THOUGHTS. I have a dear friend visiting me today. I’m going to bring up several of those statements as we do our usual “sit in the garden room and visit” for several hours.
