Cream of Jalapeno Soup

T.G.I.F.
May your Friday be fabulous!

How was your week?

I had a very chill, productive week — totally embracing this change of season (as I do with all changes of seasonsfunny, peculiar how that works).

Great line-up to present today for a grand kick-off to the weekend.

BEGINNING WITH:

  • STACY’S WORLD
I hinted on Monday that Stacy’s column today is a don’t wanna miss.
    And now you see why!
    Brooches making a come-back … in fantastic p-zzzz-aaaa-ppp style.
    Chic on the Cheap!
    What?
    Love it!
Plus Stacy shares with us her pro tips on how and where to place so we can all strut our individual personality via funky, pretty accessories.
    So.  Much.  Fun.
    Thanks, Stac!
  • QUICK QUESTION
What makes a person beautiful to me comes from their inside and outside:
    Confidence
    Genuine happiness
    Individual style
    Generosity of time and friendship
    A peaceful vibe.
    How about you?
  • JERRY CLOWER’S
    THE NEIGHBOR’S RABBIT STORY
The humorous story + the name Homerline (pretty sure that was his wife’s name) had me in laughter stitches.
I, personally, have not met a woman or man by the name Homerline!  Gotta love it.
And the individual who rolls with the name Homerline?
100% has to be an interesting person to hang out with.
  • CREAM OF JALAPENO SOUP
Gotta trust me – it’s stellar – spoonful by spoonful!
Don’t forget the toasted/cheese flour tortilla pieces to serve alongside.
Zero disappointment – I’d be stunned if you disagree.
And, nope, it’s not spicy just because Its name goes by jalapeno.  A total mellow pepper flavor.
  • THANKS DAYMAKER FRIENDS FOR THE LOVE AND SUPPORT
    Sharing + caring + engaging
We feel the love and we love ya back!

Ready.
Set.
Enjoy this 5 for Friday read!

STACY’S WORLD
THE BROOCHES AND PEARLS
FOR ALL YOU GIRLS!

Happy Friday, Friends!

The past few weeks I have been checking out what jewelry is trending this fall.

I am seeing a lot of pearl jewelry – which I love.

I have always worn pearls.  Pearls never go out of style for me.

My grandmother loved pearls, too.  And to this day I have and will always keep and wear her beautiful pearl jewelry.

In the first TWO PICS —
You will see pearls and brooches mixed together.
The fun piece that I am seeing — a big “come back” on are brooches.

Brooches make a very interesting statement piece — especially when pinned in an unexpected place.  I have a firefly brooch that I sometimes pin right above the front pocket of my jeans.  I also have a spider brooch that I have pinned om the back shoulder of a denim jacket.

((It’s also cool to pin your brooches on throw pillows when not wearing them to add a little bling to your home decor.))

I am mostly seeing clusters of brooches pinned on denim jackets like in PIC 1 and PIC 2.

I love PIC 3
With all the brooches pinned on the back pocket of a pair of jeans.
If you decide to try this very cute idea, be careful where you sit.  I say this because I had a pair of jeans many years ago that had silver and diamond studs covering my back pockets and they left indentations on the leather seats of my car.

When I wore those jeans, I learned to bring a towel to sit on to cover my seat.

I am thinking to myself — I love these funky clusters of brooches pinned on these denim jackets — but I will not end up spending more on these brooches than on the jacket.

Hmmmm … Where can I find brooches in bulk at a good price?

Ding!  Ding!
** TEMU.com **

I could not believe the thousands “literally” of brooches and pins TEMU.com had.  I checked it out and the prices are great.

PIC 4
Is one of the many pics I found.
In this pic, they advertise a 10-pack assortment for $10.99.

WOW!

Whatever your thing is — whether it be cats, books, turtles … TEMU.com will most likely have brooches in that theme.

Seeing TEMU’s prices for bulk jewelry gave me a great idea for Christmas goodies for my clients — which I will share with all in December!

Google TEMU.com — search brooches and have fun creating your own personal themed clothing piece or pieces!

MEME FOR THE DAY:
I’M LOOKING FOR A MOISTURIZER
THAT HIDES THE FACT THAT I HAVE
BEEN TIRED SINCE 2010.

Have a fantabulous weekend!

QUICK QUESTION

WHAT MAKES A PERSON
BEAUTIFUL TO YOU?

THE NEIGHBOR’S RABBIT
BY JERRY CLOWER

One morning Homerline was washing dishes, and she looked out the back window and went to screaming.

“I said, Honey, what in the world is the matter?”

She said, “Look at Old Duke!”  (That was my bassett hound.)

Duke was standing there holding a rabbit in his mouth; done killed it.  And I recognized right off it was Jack and Eugenia’s pet rabbit from next door.  “What are we gonna do?”

Homerline went and got the rabbit and brought him in the house and bathed him, blow-dried him with a hair dryer, fluffed him up and took him back over there, put the rabbit back in the pen, shut the gate, and come on back in the house.

Well, the following Saturday it was a routine thing that Jack and Eugenia and Homerline and me would drink coffee about ten o’clock.  So we was sitting in there drinking coffee and Eugenia said, “Y’all know, the strangest thing happened.  Our rabbit died, and we buried the thing.  Two days later we go out there in the backyard, and there’s that rabbit, back in the pen.  Looked like he just come from the beauty parlor.”

CREAM OF JALAPENO SOUP

This recipe is modestly adapted from the cookbook, A COWBOY IN THE KITCHEN,  by Grady Spears.
Grady writes, “This pepper bisque is Reata’s most popular soup by a long shot.”
Yield:  6 Servings

INGREDIENTS:

  • 7 large jalapeno peppers, stemmed and seeded
  • 1 1/2 TBSP butter
  • 1 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large avocado, peeled and diced
  • 2 large, ripe tomatoes, diced
  • 8 cups heavy cream
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 bunch cilantro, stemmed and chopped

HERE’S HOW TO MAKE IT:

  1. Mince the jalapenos and set aside
  2. In a large, heavy saucepan, heat the butter over medium heat
  3. Add the jalapenos, onions, and garlic
  4. Saute, stirring until vegetables are soft
  5. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in avocado, tomatoes and cream
  6. Keeping the temperature to medium-low, return the pan to the heat, watching and stirring so the cream does not separate
  7. Bring the soup SLOWLY back to a simmer and cook for about 30 minutes to reduce by one third and to blend the flavors
  8. Be sure to stir the soup occasionally to prevent sticking or scorching
  9. Season with salt and pepper
  10. Just before serving — stir in the cilantro leaves  (reserving some for garnishing purposes)

SERVE:

  • Ladle soup into bowls and garnish with a few sprinkles of remaining cilantro

PERFECT SIDE-KICK:

  • Pan toasted flour tortilla shells with shredded, melted Monterey Jack cheese on top
  • Cut into quarters (pizza slice style)

Love Stacy’s ways of fashionizing with brooches! My mom used to perch a bumblebee pin on her shoulder – which attracted a lot of smiles. Stacy’s suggestions for grouping brooches is nice too – may as well make a REAL fashion statement! I have a few specimens of the heirloom variety that I plan to uncover and pin into action. May also check out thrift stores for additions. Thanks for the ideas! And I want that moisturizer too!!!

Did I hear Cream of Jalapeno Soup? I’m all in. We’re on a kind of pepper kick these days and this fits the heat.

Beautiful artwork – as we’ve come to expect – and great quote from the lovely and elegant Coco Chanel.

Enjoy the beautiful weather and slightly cooler temps and have a wonderful weekend!!!

Hey J! I would love to see what ideas you come up with as where to pin your brooches. I understand you are quite the fashionista yourself!

Stacy’s column on Brooches caused all kinds of memories to ignite within me. I can see my great grandma Nancy Herndon wearing a pearl brooch attached to her long black winter coat. She looked beautiful. Then of course all my aunts plus my Mom wearing their Sunday coats with brooches. I managed to inherit a few pearl ones. I appreciate Stacy opening up my thinking that all of those “Pens” in my Mom’s jewelry box are actually brooches! I’m brewing up creativity thinking and launching out to bigger better ideas in wearing my Mom and aunts’ jewelry. 2) And yes Jerry Clower nearly always gets a chuckle out of me. 3) WHAT MAKES A PERSON BEAUTIFUL TO YOU? That would be a friend or stranger that offers a soft smile in my direction! Somehow magic happens and they truly turn beautiful.
