INSPIRING, LAUGHTER, RECIPES, FUN
Hello Magnificent Daymaker Readers –
Presenting Top of the Morning!
Another fantastic-fun great line-up I collected to share today.
Beginning with:
The Deserted Places that still remain – grandeur. Imagine the stories they would tell if they could.
I’m IN on Gardening with Buckets. Last time I was in Home Depot/Lowe’s – I think I saw a price tag per bucket was a little less than $5. And then I can properly place them in the perfect spot around here depending on their sunlight requirements!
OMG! Vintage Pianos repurposed to BEAUTIFUL, GIANT sweeping Phoenix Sculptures. I want one! Big time.
HORSERADISH is the key ingredient to summer coleslaw. I’m a believer. I love being in the know about a “secret ingredient”!
BREATH-TAKING SHOT OF THE STATUE OF LIBERTY BEING ZAPPED by a bolt of lightning. Talented photographer for having a lightning fast camera and skills to capture such a super fast happening. Super cool!
RECIPES!
CRISPY PAN FRIED FISH FINGERS! Wowzer.
ASIAN SHORT RIBS – I, personally, have never been a rib-eater-kinda gal. However, I know many are. However, this recipe totally has my full attention.
SPRING ROLLS – I’ve enjoyed and eaten waaaaayyyy too many when offered at the catering table – especially dipped in the magic peanut sauce. And now I know how to make them at home! And I intend to.
ZUCCHINI CHEESE MUFFIN SLABS – look incredible and the recipe reads the same. I can’t wait for zucchini season to roll in (meaning I plan to plant a zucchini plant or 2 in my bucket garden) and have some recipe delightness.
OATMEAL RAISIN BARS – ‘ nough said.
EVOLUTION OF DANCE is totally worthy of the 4 minute watch! I was both intrigued by the talents of the dancers over the years and the fact that I couldn’t dance my way outta a burlap sack – but sure wish I could!
Jerry Clower! THE BURNING BUILDING story is a hoot! I love his country boy writing-real-life-recollections. He sure was a gift to us in that he knew how to tell a story of a place or time we’ve never been and make us laugh hard!
THANKS ALL for popping in and giving us a piece of your Monday + engaging and sharing.
We love ya!

THE BURNING BUILDING
BY JERRY CLOWER
I growed up at Route 4, Liberty, Mississippi, with a family named Ledbetter. They were my closest neighbors, and they was great people. As I think back on my childhood days, there is nobody I loved more than the whole family of Ledbetters. Uncle Versie was the mainmost one: he was the papa of them all.
Our county seat town was a small town with a volunteer fire department. It was in the middle of the summer — big drought, no water. Everybody knew if a building caught on fire, it was gone, ’cause there wasn’t no water. We just couldn’t draw it up fast enough to put out no fire.
One Saturday evening this building caught on fire, and commenced to burning. The crowd gathered, their arms folded, squalling, watching the building burn ’cause there ain’t no water.
About that time here come Uncle Versie Ledbetter and Aunt Pet, his wife, in their old truck. And all the younguns with them — Ardell, Burnell, Raynell, W. L., Odell, Udell, Lanell, Marcel, Claude, Newgene, and Clovis. They was all hanging on that old truck.
Everybody heard them coming, the fenders rattling, bumpada bump bump — here they come. And the crowd parted ’cause they was coming pretty fast. They run right up on the sidewalk and right up in the middle of the fire — into the fire! And they jumped off and took off their overall jumpers, and went to flopping and stamping the fire. Aunt Pet had her bonnet, telling them, “Here, stamp over here; and they beat it out.” And they stamped the fire out! They put it slap out.
The folks cheered, “The Ledbetters, they’re the heroes. They put out the fire.” They passed the hat and took up a collection — thirty-one dollars — and give the money to Uncle Versie. They said, “Sir, we love you. Y’all are the heroes. Tell us, what you gonna but with the thirty-one dollars?”
He said, “The first thing I’m gonna do is get the brakes fixed!”

I love the dance periods I think my favorite is the 40 and 50s era❤️
Oh, wow! Daymaker and the “totality” eclipse on the same day! Loved seeing the abandoned places even though I was saddened that these wonders of art and architecture are slowly going away. Awed by the piano phoenixes. Loved the bucket garden ideas – also a great way to recycle buckets. Sooo hungry for crunchy fish fingers and – who would’ve thought – horseradish coleslaw! Thanks for a great start to the week!!!
The piano artwork. Fab!
Daymaker out did itself today. The music and dance through the decades was happy land for me. My favorites: 40’s Jitterbug, Rockin 50’s, swinging 60’s and Disco 70’s. Certainly a round of applause! Now to the Deserted places. I found myself voting on favorites: #3 carousel, #5 Colorado Old Mill as well as #15 Old Railroad tracks through the woods. I discovered about myself that the old worn wooden buildings caught my heart the most. Oh, to have those old treasures on my 24/7 digital photo frame to view along with hundreds of others in my kitchen window. Miles of smiles.
