HAPPY FRIDAY !

The Snow Queen Edgar Maxence

Hey Hey!

Presenting 5 for Friday.  The last episode of Daymaker Readable Art 2023.

Another fantastic line-up today.

Beginning with:

STEPHANIE’S CHIC ON THE CHEAP

WOW!
Gotta read about this Snail Mucin product.  I feel like I’ve been living under a rock or in a cave as I had no idea this is the hottest trend in skincare right now!

Pretty sure I wanna know though.

So once again — da-da-da-da-dun-ta-dun — Stephanie to the rescue keeping us in the know!!

I was totally ready to purchase a bottle and then I read in her column that she’s gonna gift me one!  Super cool.  Excited to try and report back in 2 months time as Steph will revisit this product in one of her future columns!

Let Steph know in Comments if you’re gonna give it a try and if you do — be sure to let her know your thoughts so you can be included in the future episode/column.
High five!

QUICK QUESTION
Took me about 3 seconds to answer.  For me it’s OPERA.  I simply never developed an ear or preference for it.  Same as I totally never developed a taste or remote desire for liver and onions.

You?

WILDER ON WONKA
Is a cool behind the scenes story.  I heard recently that they’re actually doing another Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory remake for the screen.  (??)

BACON AND CHEESE GRITS RECIPE
Is so down home good and simple and hard to beat for breakfast lunch or dinner AND molded, refrigerated and sliced and fried.  I love this recipe!

THANK YOU
For being such a valuable + appreciated part of the Daymaker Readable Art Community this year 2023!

We love one and all and we’re sure looking forward to see what 2024 is bringing to the reading table (so to speak).  You can count on Daymaker to strive 3 x’s a week to make your day!

Here we go!

STEPHANIE’S CHIC ON THE CHEAP
YOU LOOK SO FINE BECAUSE YOU SLIME

Hi there.

My friend Cathaleen came into the salon a few months ago and told me her daughter was using a product containing snail mucin on her face.

I was like, What did you say …

Snail mucin.  YES.   Snail mucin.

Another client overheard our conversation and chimed in and told us that it’s the hottest trend in skincare right now.  She also told us that ULTA carries it but are always out of stock so she purchases hers on Amazon.

At this moment in the conversation — I’m still trying to wrap my head around sliming snail mucus on my face.

Four weeks later Cathaleen came in for her next appointment and had purchased herself and me a bottle of snail mucin.  She had been using it for about three weeks and loved it.

I went home and did a little research on this “snail snot” lol.

People have been using snail mucin as far back as the early days in Greece.  They used it on wounds to reduce inflammation because snails naturally produce toxins that fight bacteria.  They also naturally produce hyaluronic acid which hydrates and plumps your skin.  This product is naturally very organic.

Korean women have been using snail mucin on their skin for two decades now.  Their secret to beautiful skin has now become very popular in the States.

I started using mine that night.

When you use this product, first you cleanse your face – then use your toner and serums (if you use them).   You then apply the snail mucin and then apply your moisturizer on top of the mucin.

My skin felt amazing the next morning.  It felt like I’d just applied my moisturizer.

A month later Cathaleen came in for her next appointment and the first thing I noticed was how great her skin looked!  She had been using the snail mucin for 2 months — in the morning and at night.

I had only been using mine at night for about 3 weeks and I could still see improvement in my skin.  Especially how hydrated it felt.  I’m now using it in the morning too!

I’m so impressed with this product that I bought some for my mom.  A few days later she gave it back to me and said she had a snail phobia and it just weirded her out too much and she just couldn’t use it.  I assured her it was filtered and perfectly safe.  But — she still wanted nothing to do with it.

So, Cheryl, I have a brand new bottle of snail mucin for you to try (the one that was my mom’s if you don’t have a snail phobia, too LOL).

I’ll give it to you when I see you this weekend and I want you to try it for 2 months and then I’ll re-visit this topic in STEPHANIE’S CHIC ON THE CHEAP in a future column and see if your opinion of this product is as positive as mine and Cathaleen.

((Huge plus)) about this product is that it’s very inexpensive – about $20 a bottle on Amazon.

If any of you Readers today decide to try this, please let me know in the Comments what you think about it!

QUICK QUESTION

WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE GENRE OF MUSIC?

WILDER ON WONKER

So the story goes …

In 1970, when he was originally offered the lead role in the film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, by director Mel Stuart, the talented Gene Wilder accepted on one condition.
That being this:

When I make my first entrance, Wilder explained, I’d like to come out the door carrying a cane and then walk toward the crowd with a limp.

After the crowd sees Willy Wonka is crippled, they will whisper to themselves and become deathly quiet.  As I walk toward them, my cane sinks into one of the cobblestones I’m walking on and stands straight up — by itself — but I keep on walking until I realize I no longer have my cane.  I start to fall forward and just before I hit the ground, I do a somersault and bounce back up — to great applause.

Asked, WHY, Wilder offered …

“Because from that time on, no one will know if I’m lying or telling the truth.”

CHEESE AND BACON GRITS

These cheese and bacon grits are so, so, so, so good.  They’re great served in a bowl (or on a salad size plate) with a poached egg on top.  Also delicious as a side kick with smoked or grilled meat and/or roasted veggies.
About 6 servings

HERE’S HOW WE MAKE IT
INGREDIENTS:

  • 4 cups chicken stock
  • 4 TBSP butter
  • 1 1/2 cups regular grits
  • 1 pound smoked bacon, cooked, drained, cooled and crumbled
  • 1 3/4 cup grated Monterey Jack cheese (freshly grated from a block is what’s ideal)
  • 4-5 green onions, thinly sliced — included green tops
  • 2 TBSP Tabasco Jalapeno Sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

NOW:

  • In a large, heavy saucepan, bring the chicken stock to a boil and then reduce heat to a simmer (low to medium low).
  • Add 2 TBSP of the butter to hot chicken stock.
  • When butter has melted, begin to shake in the grits by one hand — while constantly whisking with the other hand.
  • When all the grits have been whisked in — grab a wooden spoon and stir frequently until the grits become thick from absorbing the chicken stock  — about 8 – 10 minutes.
  • Remove saucepan from the heat and stir in remaining 2 TBSP butter, bacon crumbles, shredded cheese, green onion slices and green Tabasco.

PREHEAT OVEN TO 350

BUTTER AN 8″ x 8″ SQUARE PAN

Spread grits into the pan and smooth with a spatula.

BAKE FOR 30 MINUTES
SERVE

I have to admit my first reaction to Snail Mucin ON MY FACE is a bit “Are you kidding me?!” But coming from Stephanie, who has tried it and knows others who have tried it, I’m going to order it and give it a try. Details to follow.

My least favorite music genre is opera also followed closely by heavy metal. Just can’t embrace those two.

Love the issue. Happy New Year!

  2. Chris says:

Thank You, for the Great Reads this year, Cheryl! My morning coffee time is much more interesting with articles, quizzes, recipes & memory makers that you put together for our reading pleasure.

Cheers to the continued success of DayMaker Readable Art in 2024!!

  3. Dixie Bostick says:

I have been using Snail mucin on and off for two years. I have so many skincare products that I go back and forth with all. I will for sure try daily for a month straight! Great recommendation! I want to make the cheese and bacon grits. I love grits! It’s another excellent episode, as always!

    • Cheryl Clarson says:

      Hi Dixie –

Another great way to use the Cheese and Bacon grits is to pour them in a loaf pan, refrigerate over night, cut into 1″ slices and then fry in a pan until browned. Delish!

Have a grand rest of your day.

  4. Marty says:

Stephanie – I’m with your mother on snail cream. However, I am looking forward to the 2 month challenge you gave to Daymaker Cheryl.

Raising snails ought to be an easy “grow” as there is an abundance in my garden.

Roll the drums January 1 smear on the snail cream.
