QUICK QUESTION

WHAT’S YOUR BEST STORY OF YOU OR SOMEONE ELSE TRYING TO BE SNEAKY AND FAILING MISERABLY?

DEAR ANNIE
BY ANNIE LANE

TWO’S COMPANY, THREE’S A CROWD

Dear Annie:

I have a question regarding my wife’s friend.  We haven’t seen her for a few years due to being generally busy with life; there was no strife or problem.  We ran into her at a musical event, and I complimented her on how great she looked.

We invited her to a small party we were hosting.  We had a great time, but before goodbyes were said, she sidled up to me, and I think she rubbed my butt as she told me I had great dance moves.  What message was she trying to convey?  I don’t think I should tell my wife, but I do often think of her.  Your thoughts?  ~ Sexy Senior

Dear Sexy Senior:

This sounds like a slippery slope, my friend.  It would be easy to pass off an innocent compliment or pleasantry as just that, but that’s not what happened here.  For this woman to have made a flirtatious comment while inappropriately touching her friend’s husband — in her friend’s home, no less — crosses the line.

The good thing is, it sounds like you two don’t see this woman very often.  If that changes and things continue to escalate, you should set a firm boundary with her.  Tell her that you love your wife and you want to keep your friendship with her completely platonic.

In the meantime, I would tell your wife what happened.  Maybe this friend got confused.  Maybe she misread the situation.  Maybe she had too much to drink at the party.  Maybe she’s lonely.  But if it should come out to your wife in a different way, it’s likely she’ll feel you’ve been hiding this, and maybe wonder what else, from her.

STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE

Hippie Cowboy’s Strawberry Shortcake was a fab-favorite.
I learned how to make/assemble it from my Grandma Miller and her sister, Aunt Jen Lou.  They learned it from their mother, my great-grandmother, “Ganny” – The Silvey girls.

HERE’S HOW WE MAKE IT:

  • Pound cake (homemade or store bought)
  • Fresh Strawberries
  • Granulated sugar

Wash and hull strawberries.  Slice each strawberry (into about 4-5 slices) depending on the size of the berry into a bowl.

Generously sprinkle sugar over all.

Cover with foil or plastic and put in refrigerator.

Ideally, the sugar and strawberries should mingle together for at least an hour without being disturbed.  The sugar extracts the juice from the strawberries – naturally – thus – creating an incredible sweet, juicy syrup.

WHILE STRAWBERRIES AND SUGAR ARE HANGING OUT TO DO THEIR THING – Prepare to make the Whipped Cream:

Place a small bowl and electric mixer beaters in the freezer for about 30 – 45 minutes.  The whipped cream will whip up to greatness and faster when bowl and beaters are freezer cold.

When beaters and bowl are super cold – pour in heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar and vanilla extract.  Whip on high for about 2 minutes.  Yummo!

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp real vanilla extract

SLICE POUND CAKE INTO 1″ SLICES

PLACE ON INDIVIDUAL PLATES

GENEROUSLY SPOON OVER STRAWBERRIES AND JUICE

TOP WITH A BIG SPOONFUL OF WHIPPED CREAM

SERVE

(BTW – any leftover whipped cream is awesome in a cup of coffee – or make extra specifically for coffee in the morning!)

Re: Strawberry Short Cake. I totally forgot the flavor booster to strawberries! I’m on it! As for Annie’s remark to the guest who stepped over the line with her husband, I have a quick solution: Kick her over the moon!

Haha – “Kick her over the Moon” – I’m sure if it were me – that would definitely cross my mind! Enjoy the strawberries prepared with the “sugar” flavor booster. Simply delish! Thanks for reading + commenting + sharing. Have a grand weekend.
