HAPPY FRIDAY!

Greek Quesadillas, Film

Howdy All –

Smile, It’s Friday morning!
And *bonus* the weekend is just a few steps away.

Have you any plans for this mid-September weekend?
I’m feeling a little fall cleaning in my weekend.  The weather’s cooled down and it’s got me in the mood to take on some tasks that I wasn’t all the way excited about doing during the summer — meaning OUTSIDE when it was just dang hot.

Super great line-up to present on this Friday the 13th of September for your reading enjoyment.

BEGINNING WITH

STACY’S WORLD
CRAFT PARTY
It’s officially pumpkin season!
And Stacy’s got us covered with her creative DIY idea for all of us to consider – either solo or with a group of pals.
What a trick + artsy idea + what a fabulous fabric covered pumpkin patch collection Stacy has going on!
I want one, too!

Stacy never fails to bring cool ideas of interestings into our worlds – whether it’s fashion, beauty, food, or projects to enhance our living spaces + holiday decor.
Love it!

(( Side note:  Stacy is recovering from a painful, super jacked-back injury which she knows not how it happened, but she totally made her column deadline to be here with us today – yay! ))

Thank you, Stac!

QUICK QUESTION
What appliance would I have the most difficulty living without?
My quick answer is — refrigerator!
Close second would be — washing machine!

You?

My mom has an old school ice box that she’s restored into a beautiful piece that holds treasured glassware now.

I remember as a kid thinking “So they would buy a big block of ice and put it at the bottom of these ice boxes and keep perishables in it.”
That’s hard core.
And as far as washing machines – well, I watched Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons.  The whole scrub, scrub, scrub on that little slider deal in a big tank of water and then wring out the clothes before hanging on the clothes line.
That’s hard core.
I remember asking my grandma – who lived from the days of horse and buggy transportation to seeing a man walk on the moon – “Grandma, tell us about the good ol’ days.”
She’d reply with a smile, “The best part about the good ol’ days is that they’re gone.”

Gratitude adjustment.
We are spoiled!

GREEK QUESADILLAS RECIPE
I, personally, am not a Gyro fan girl.
However, I love this Greek twist sandwiched quesadilla style.
I don’t know why.  I just do.
Definitely worthy of a try it – you’ll love it recipe!

HUGE THANKS
For popping by on this Friday to give us a read + sharing + engaging.

Ready?
Set.
Here we go.
Enjoy.

STACY’S WORLD
CRAFT PARTY

Hi Friends!

About 20 years ago a friend of mine was selling these adorable cool pumpkins that her mom had made.  Her mom made all her pumpkins in vintage fabrics.

PIC #1
I bought 2.
One of the pumpkins is made from old velvet curtain fabric and the other is made from an old chenille bedspread.

Thus started my collection of funky fabric pumpkins.

Almost every year after that I purchased a new unique fabric covered pumpkin.  I now have 18 funky covered fabric or yarn covered pumpkins.

PIC #2
Is a few more pumpkins in my collection.
I have clusters of these pumpkins on my porch and in my house for my Fall and Halloween decor.  They make simple and interesting statement pieces in small clusters on my dining room table, entry way, mantle and porch.

Instead of buying a new pumpkin this year, I am going to make one.

PIC #3
I spotted this super cool pumpkin on Pinterest.
All you do is take a styrofoam ball, cut the top and bottom off to create a pumpkin shape.  Then simply take cut strips of 3″ width fabric, twist them and glue to the styrofoam shaped ball.  (You use straight pins to secure the fabric while the glue is drying.)

You can find fun and interesting vintage fabrics from clothing pieces at thrift stores for next to nothing as cost goes.

Y’all know by now I love me some thrift store finds.  LOL

I’m going to use a cutting from a branch from one of my trees for the stem of the pumpkin.  You just dab some glue to one end of the branch and stick it directly into the styrofoam and glue some decorative silk leaves around the stem.

This adorable DIY pumpkin creation would be perfect for a “Craft Party.”

If I were hosting a pumpkin making Craft Party, I would provide the styrofoam balls, cut pieces of tree branches (for the stems), decorative silk leaves as well as glue and straight pins.

I would have my guests bring cut 3″ pieces of fabric – about 50 per person.

I would have everyone put their cut pieces of fabric in the center of the craft table, mix them up and then we would all start putting together our one-of-a-kind twisted fabric of strands pumpkins.

As refreshments at my Craft Party, I would provide pumpkin spiced coffee and sugar cookies.

If you choose to adult your coffee, I would also have pumpkin spice rum available to add to the coffee drinks if my guests wanted to partake … Yummy.

I’m feeling a “Craft Party” coming soon!

Have a great Friday and weekend!
See ya in a couple weeks.

QUICK QUESTION

WHAT APPLIANCE WOULD YOU HAVE
THE HARDEST TIME DOING WITHOUT?

FILM CREW 101
VIDEO ASSIST
BY PETER CLARSON

VIDEO ASSIST is a tool used by the Director, Director of Photography, Script Supervisor, Producers and Department Heads working the Set to view  Scenes being shot in real time, playback of Rehearsals and Takes.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:
A video tap is attached to the film/digital camera and faithfully transmits the images from the camera to various video monitors/recorders/computers on Set.  The tap can be hard wired, using BNC cable, or wireless, using a radio transmitter.

VIDEO VILLAGE
Is where this equipment is set up and the area is surrounded with many Director style chairs.  Video Village is VIP only:  Director, Director of Photography, Script Supervisor, Producers, Department Heads working the set.

If you are not one of these people, do not even think about trying to join in and watch Video Playback or Scenes being shot in real time.  You will be asked to leave – and it won’t be kind.

AS A RULE
Video Assist is a Department of one.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Works closely with the Director and Script Supervisor
  • Documents history of good/bad Takes
  • Prints sample images of numerous scenes
  • Wrangles video cable
  • Moves monitors and other Video equipment from Set to Set

VIDEO ASSIST equipment is computer driven and technicians must be computer savvy to excel.

GREEK QUESADILLAS
AND HOMEMADE TZATZIKI SAUCE

These epic quesadillas are de-lish!

HERE’S HOW WE MAKE THEM

FIRST MAKE THE TZATZIKI SAUCE

  • 1 cup full fat Greek yogurt (gotta be full fat because it renders the best base for the sauce)
  • 1/2 of an English cucumber, cleaned, grated or chopped super fine and squeeze dry between paper towels
  • 1 TBSP fresh dill, minced (or freeze dried dill – think Lighthouse)
  • 1 TBSP white vinegar
  • 1 tsp fresh mint, minced (optional)
  • 2 TBSP olive oil

Combine ingredients in a bowl, cover and refrigerate for at least an hour prior to serving.

QUESADILLAS

PREHEAT OVEN TO 400*

INGREDIENTS:

  • 8 – 8″ flour tortilla shells
  • 1 – 10 oz package frozen spinach, thawed and squeeze liquid out as dry as you can
  • 1/2 cup jarred roasted red peppers, chopped
(find jarred roasted peppers in most grocery stores near the olives)
  • 1/2 cup pitted, chopped Kalamata olives
  • 1 1/2 cup shredded chicken
(rotisserie chicken is magic in a snap right now or poached works great, too)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella
  • 1 cup crumbled feta
  • 1 TBSP fresh or freeze dried dill

NOW IT’S TIME TO ASSEMBLE THE QUESADILLAS
LIKE YOU’RE MAKING LITTLE PIZZAS
INGREDIENTS DIVIDED ACCORDINGLY

On a large lined baking sheet – either foil or parchment paper

  • Place 4 flour tortilla shells on baking sheet
  • Lightly spray tops of shells with an olive oil cooking spray (think Pam or alternate brand)
  • Sprinkle a thin layer of mozzarella cheese
  • Thin layer of spinach
  • Chopped olives
  • Roasted red peppers
  • Shredded chicken
  • Feta
  • Another sprinkle of mozzarella

CAP EACH
Of the 4 quesadillas with another flour tortilla shell

BAKE
8-10 minutes until cheese is melted

REMOVE FROM OVEN
And transfer to a cutting board and cut each of the four into quarters

SERVE IMMEDIATELY
With Tzatziki Sauce

Refrigerator, washing machine, microwave, dishwasher are my can’t do without appliances. Didn’t realize how much I used my microwave until mine went out (during covid) and replacement parts weren’t available. Ended up buying a “temporary” replacement because we just. could. not. function without it.

Stacy’s cute pumpkins have me thinking about fall in a big way, especially since temps have been delightfully cool this week. Such inspiration. And for pennies! Kudos to Stacy for powering through and meeting her deadline. We always LOVE her ideas!

One of the few good memories my husband has from his military duty in Greece is gyros (souflakis). Over the years we have attempted making them ourselves – and we’ve gotten pretty close to his memories – but I can’t wait to try the Daymaker version. Who doesn’t like quesadillas? And the tzatziki sauce – make or break for gyros – sounds perfect. More to come. . .

Oh, and that reminds me we tried your corn spoon bread recipe – baking it in a cast iron skillet on the grill – and it was divine!

As always, enjoy Film 101 and the wonderful explanations. Sounds like Video assistant is a pretty heady experience 😉 !

    Thanks Daymaker!

  2. Marty says:

Daymaker’s Stacy, I never know what you are going to bring us and that’s the fun, frankly in seeing your creativity. Today. I choose the dozens of pieces of pretty fabric for the pumpkin. It’s very eye catching!

Now to my Film Crew education class. Who would believe the hundreds and hundreds of people it takes to make up a Film Crew, editing team, and then on to marketing? One of my all time favorite movies is Secretariat. I say to my daughter on gloomy days, “Well, I think I’m going to watch you know what tonight?

And she chimes in with, “I know, Secretariat!” I never get tired of the script in that movie – but even sweeter is seeing what still remains the greatest race horse in all of history.

    Secretariat!

    • Stacy says:

Go Marty Go! I also have some clothing items in my donate pile that I have pulled out to cut up and make my Pumpkin!!
