Homemade Artisan Crackers

ST. LOUIS GATEWAY ARCH, ARTISAN HOMEMADE CRACKERS, CILANTRO SLAW RECIPE, CHRISTOPHER WALKEN IS AN AMAZING DANCER IN MOVIES WE’VE ALL SEEN

Monday marvelous greetings, friends!

I had a happy weekend.
Uneventful which to me = happy.   ha

Happy Dance shout-out to my longtime, dear friend + Daymaker, Cynthia, who became a first time grandma —  “Grandma B”  on August 14th to Emery Wayne!
HOORAY! – Emery Wayne and Grandma B and Grandpa B.
Welcome to the world baby boy.
Emery Wayne, as I personally know your G and G B quite well – life is gonna be a cool, happy place full of love, laughter and adventure.”

Had a lot of fun collecting these goodies to share with all today!

BEGINNING WITH:

24 Window Sill Decorating Ideas
I don’t actually have a favorite-take-away from this collection of ideas.
All are super art-inspired extensions of our personalities.  I love and always have loved, carefully positioning pieces in a few of the window sills around my home.
I did, however, gather a few new ideas to perhaps swap out or add to a couple of somethings to my windows of natural light.

BEST WAY TO BAKE A POTATO
Raise your hand if you don’t love a baked potato?
Looking — don’t see any hands raised.
This piece of advice for baking the best potato from a potato farmer is gonna be my new-go-to probably forever.

LA FORET MONUMENTALE (aka the Monumental Forest)
The Striking sculptures in the forest for public viewing is stunning.
If you or I lived in France we could do the walk-thru in person.  Since I don’t, I’m delighted and appreciate the pics of these amazing GIANT sculptures by so many talented artists.

UPDATE ON LAHAINA’S 151 YEAR OLD BANYAN TREE
Has me awe-struck after the devastating fires just about a year ago in Hawaii.
Keep healing, growing and showing your survival/tough skills, Banyan tree.  With a little help from friends.
Yep, this Banyan tree is encouraging.

ANIMATED GATEWAY ARCH IN ST. LOUIS
Is a captivating watch and learn.
Blew me away!
Maybe one day I’ll see it.
Although, if I do go and see pretty sure correction — I won’t jump in the tiny car thing of 4-5 seats to go up like a Ferris wheel ride.
Wouldn’t be my cup of tea — but I’d like to see the giantness of the arch and check out the museum beneath it.

  • RECIPES (!)
    CILANTRO SLAW

There’s a brick and mortar place in a neighboring town by the name, Cox Farmer’s Market.  One of their signature grab-and-go items in the refrigerated deli case is a Cilantro Slaw.
Man, oh, man, is it good!
Slipped inside tacos, piled on top of burgers, on plate side with grilled chicken, pork, brisket or by the fork-full straight out of the bowl.
I’ve tried to recreate it over the years.  Not so successful to date.
    However!
This recipe is close enough that I call it a twin.
    Win-Win.
    FIRST TIME TAMALES
I love tamales from time to time — and, although, I consider myself pretty adept in the kitchen — making homemade tamales always seemed a little out of reach for me.
But, this recipe brings confidence to me that I can do it!
We used to outsource tamales for our grab-n-go dinners at Hippie Cowboy from a mom-and-pop company by the name — Mother Shucker’s.
Yep, you read that correctly – Mother Shucker’s.
Their tamales were top-notch and their logo was thumbs up original art design coolness.
They probably had 5 different tamale choices — if memory serves me –but the two we always ordered were:
    1. Bean, jalapeno, cheese
    2. Brisket
Customers were wild about the tamales + the beans and rice sidekicks in each little grab-n-go dinner + housemade salsa was hands down fan-favorites.
    *Sigh*
    Mother Shucker’s
went out of business for whatever reason a while back.
However, I’m so gonna recreate Mother Shucker’s bean, cheese, jalapeno and brisket tamales in my home kitchen coming soon thanks to Muy Bueno’s no stress/no intimidating recipe.
    HOMEMADE ARTISAN CRACKERS
    Hello?!  Yes!
Love this recipe from Nagi.  She never disappoints.
Not only am I thinking of making a batch(es) and zipping them up in a plastic bag to enjoy around here with pieces of sharp cheddar cheese or a tablespoon of prepared tuna salad on a cracker or 12 —
BUT I’m also thinking ahead — Christmas or hostess gifts when the holiday season finds us.  Which will be in a snap of the fingers.
BREAKFAST BROWN BUTTER PEACH BAKED OATMEAL
This sounds like my kinda breakfast.  Warmed up or cold with a drizzle of half and half cream drizzled on top.
    TOMATO PIE
    My hand is raised.
    Rather, both arms are raised.
    Fantastic.
I call it — Summer Bounty Tomato Quiche.
And it’s excellent with a handful of chunks of fresh fruit and a glass of iced coffee for breakfast or brunch OR with a tiny side salad for dinner.
    BANANA CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
Yeah, I know, there are a bazillion chocolate chip cookie recipes out there and I definitely have my favorite.  You probably do as well.
What intrigues me about this recipe is the addition of ripe bananas.
Gotta be outstanding – and the part where the recipe directs to put a bowl over the top of cookies when they come out of the oven and kinda squish them down, rotate bowl, to make them perfectly round.
    Like that trick-tip-touch!

THIS GREAT WATCH OF CHRISTOPHER WALKEN DANCING IN OVER 50 MOVIES
Is a don’t-wanna-pass-it up watchand Daymaker brings it to you today with just one simple click.
Get ready to toe-tap to the Everybody Dance Now music accompanying the entire compilation.
Love the song from way back when and love it even more now watching this production splice together.

Most of us totally know Christoper Walken as a brilliant, talented supporting actor in many, many movies – (think Deer Hunter. Pennies from Heaven, Annie Hall, Batman Returns, Pulp Fiction, Sleepy Hollow, Man on Fire — just to name a few).

Walken’s compelling performances totally added to Productions as in the cinematic value to audiences.

And Walken’s voice – unmistakably one-of-a-kind.  His voice is like no other.

What I didn’t know/realize until I viewed this spliced together performance(s) is how many actual dance scenes Walken did in 50 + movies.

AMAZING
Gifted actor + dancer!
Hat tip, Sir.

I also read and found to share these 2 pieces:

  1.  Christoper Walken actually started his career in entertainment as a dancer.
  2.  Christoper Walken took his first dance lesson at the age of three.
“It was very typical for people — and I mean working class people — to send their kids to dancing school.  You’d learn ballet, tap, acrobatics …”

THREE MEN ON A HIKE TALE
Three men were hiking through a forest when they came upon a large, raging, violent river.

Needing to get to the other side, the first man prayed: God, please give me the strength to cross the river.

POOF!
God gave him big arms and legs and he was able to swim across in about 2 hours, having almost drowned twice.

After witnessing that — the second man prayed:  God please give me strength and the tools to cross the river.

POOF!
God gave him a rowboat and strong arms and legs and was able to cross in about an hour after almost capsizing once.

Seeing what happened to the first two men, the third man prayed:  God please give me the strength, the tools and the intelligence to cross the river.

POOF!
He was turned into a woman.  She checked the map, hiked one hundred yards up stream and walked across a bridge.

Before I say another thing, shout-out to Stacy for her corn on the cob with jalapenos recipe from Friday. We tried it yesterday and it is totally YUMMY! Thanks, Stacy!!!

Love the windowsill decorating ideas – something for everyone!

And suddenly I’m craving the perfect baked potato!

And pretending I can move my feet in the manner of Christopher Walken…

And longing for a return trip to St. Louis that this time will include a ride to the top of the arch. View must be fantastic!

Great issue – jam-packed with ideas and information. Happy week!

      Yay, Carol!

Cool “thumbs up” feedback on Stacy’s corn on the cob/jalapeno recipe!

I, too, am craving the perfect potato! A 4th generation potato farmer has GOT TO KNOW THE BEST WAY to bake a potato, right?!

So thankful for your feedback and huge support to Daymaker via reading + supporting via your fun writing in comments!

      Hat tip, Carol. Thanks

Salad Time and the living is easy…..Daymaker has nailed the recipe: It’s fresh cilantro, a dab of honey, plus lime juice in my already purchased Trader Joe’s coleslaw salad mix. I’m marching off to the store early in the morning, grabbing 3 items plus a few more and then home I go. (Now here’s what I think of as a fact that I’ve discovered about myself when going to the “market” as my aunt would say. I proclaim we all have our favorites and basically we buy the same 20 items! I declare, my grocery cart has worn grooves in the floor and all I do is follow the trail which takes me straight to the check-out. The End.

    • Cheryl Clarson says:

      Marty –

That’s hilarious how you describe your grocery cart wearing grooves in the floor and then head to the check-out!
      I can totally relate! Ha

Glad you enjoyed the salad recipe. It’s a salad-salad winner!

      Thanks.
