Ultimate Creamy Potato Soup
Greetings Friends,
And happy Monday January 6, 2025.
How was your weekend?
Mine pretty chill – as in chilly!
Temps were scheduled to drop into the 20’s Sunday night – and weather man says it’s gonna stay this way for at least a week – so I did all the necessary things a homeowner should do: cover/secure the outside faucets, drip faucets, bring any can’t take the brrrr perish plants in or cover those I can’t bring in – because they’re in the ground – with big sheets and secure their cover ups, shop for staples at the grocery store so I don’t have to get out, secure lawn furniture and umbrellas, etc … ya get the picture.
Anyway, all is accomplished and I feel good about it.
How about you?
Temps doing a dippty-do dive for you?
Had a ton of fun collecting these cools to share today:

NO CHARGE FOR LOVE
Get ready to smile with a tear or two sliding down your cheek(s).
Special heart beat story.
~ And the story goes …
A farmer had some puppies he needed to sell.
He painted a sign advertising the 4 pups and set about nailing it to a post on the edge of his yard.
As he was driving the last nail into the post, he felt a tug on his overalls.
He looked down into the eyes of a little boy.
“Mister,” the little boy said, “I want to buy one of your puppies.”
“Well,” said the farmer as he rubbed the sweat off the back of his neck, “These puppies come from fine parents and cost a good deal of money.”
The boy dropped his head for a moment.
Then reaching in his pocket, he pulled out a handful of change and held it up to the farmer.
“I’ve got thirty-nine cents. Is that enough to take a look?”
“Sure,” said the farmer and let out a whistle.
“Here, Dolly!”
Out from the dog house and down the ramp ran Dolly and four little balls of fur.
The little boy pressed his face against the chain link fence. His eyes danced with delight as the dogs made their way to the fence.
The little boy noticed something else stirring inside the dog house.
Slowly, another little ball appeared. This one noticeably smaller.
Down the ramp it slid.
Then, in a somewhat awkward manner, the little pup began hobbling toward the others, doing its best to catch up.
“I want that one,” the little boy said pointing to the runt.
The farmer knelt down at the boy’s side and said,
“Son, you don’t want that puppy. He will never be able to run and play with you like the others would.”
With that, the little boy stepped back and began rolling up one leg of his trousers.
In doing so, he revealed a steel brace running down both sides of his leg attaching itself to a specially made shoe.
Looking at the farmer, he said, “You see, Sir, I don’t run too well myself, and he will need someone who understands.”
With tears in his eyes, the farmer reached down and picked up the little pup.
Holding it – he carefully handed it to the little boy.
“How much?” asked the little boy.
“No charge,” answered the farmer.
“There’s no charge for love.”

I love the look back of the 70’s. Playing outside until the street lights came on you knew then it was time to go home. I don’t ever remember of there being a fear of being out and about by yourself with your friends just good fun times. The other one is riding in the back of a station wagon as you made faces at people behind you which was always fun I can’t even imagine taking trips now when these kids are in car seats that straight up the whole time we always laid across the seats in the back window etc. they were good times happy sixth everybody brand new year😄
Potato soup? Yippee, especially in the winter months.
Daymaker is such a great read.
I loved the comments on how to say “NO.” Unfortunately I generally start my response with, “I can’t….” however now that I think about it, a better comment would be, “Nice of you to ask, however my plate runneth over these days as I must refuel some energy.” There, that’s certainly true and can’t be argued WITH.
(Whoopsie I ended my sentence with a preposition which is forbidden to English teachers, or do they care these days?)
Onward.
Where oh where do you find such beautiful art EVERY issue! Love it!
I was just thinking I had some potatoes that needed to be used when lo, you provide the yummiest sounding potato soup recipe. Perfect weather to try it! Roasted smashed Brussels sprouts will get a try as well.
Duke’s mayo is indeed the best. Now we know why.
Once again DayMaker covered all the bases with flair and style – and love. Thank you, thank you.
Love the 70’s article! Can totally relate!
Also love the tips for keeping your home smelling great. I am definately going to put a few drops of lavender essential oil on my air filter next time I change it. Great fun read!
