HAPPY FRIDAY!

Wallpaper and Linoleum Ideas

Happy Friday!
We’re so excited that you’re here today!

How has your week been?
Good here.  Tackling a few projects around here.
Main one was my fridge was kinda’ doing a tiny leaky-leak thing and I couldn’t figure it out.

A friend said, “Check your drip pan.”
Light Bulb Moment!  I hadn’t thought of that.

So I took off the kick plate and discovered:
a) I don’t have a drip pan
b) By flashlight and me lying on the floor revealed the condenser coils were caked – and I mean CAKED – with cat fur and layers of dust or whatever was suffocating my ‘fridge from operating properly.
I was — cheeks flushed, embarrassed, shocked!
Good thing nobody was here to see it or I would’ve been ashamed that this had happened under my watch.
Poor ‘fridge just couldn’t breathe properly.

I went into clean the condenser coil mode with a shop vac + attachment hose and flashlight — me still lying on the tile floor as I worked.

I swear as I worked and the attachment hose sucked all the caked on stuff off the condenser coil(s), I could almost feel/hear the ‘fridge, sighing, and saying, “I can breathe now!  Thank you.”

Happy to report, she (‘fridge) is purring like a kitten and we’re all cool with each other again.
And maybe – just maybe – my power bill will reflect a little bonus from it.  hahaha

Thanks, Joe, for that huge piece of wisdom!  Hat tip.

AND!
Carol messaged me that she hasn’t used the ** Ticarve ** cleaning product yet in her car — BUT — she has been exploring and is using it a bit around her house and it works well:  especially good on hard to clean woodwork and tile corners and windowsills and kitchen corners and she’ll let us know other outcomes.
What’s not to love about this grown-up looking silly putty product with so many cleaning uses for reaching those *&#! spots in our vehicles and homes?
PLEASE SHARE:
If you happen to buy this cool product — we’d all love to hear your when/where/how you used it and results!
Intriguing!  Wish I would have had it when I was doing the whole ‘fridge condenser coil clean up.  Not sure how I would have gotten it underneath in that very narrow space.  But, you know that old saying, “where there’s a will — there’s a way”?
I’ve found that to be true 9 outta 10 times!  hahaha

STACY’S WORLD
NOT YOUR GRANDMA’S HOUSE

Hello Friends!

When you think of linoleum and wallpaper, do you think of your Grandmother’s house?

Well, erase that thought.

Wallpaper and linoleum are making a resurgence in home design.

Modern wallpaper and “lino” (that’s the new word for linoleum) designs are so beautiful and can really make a statement.

The peel and stick removable wallpaper is inexpensive and is much quicker and much simpler to install than traditional wallpaper.
Wall prep is the key to ensure a smooth application and better end result:
Remove all nails and outlet covers and clean your walls with a damp sponge and a mild, non abrasive cleaner 24 hours before installation.

The cool thing about peel and stick wallpaper is that there is very little commitment.  So if you want to change your wallpaper for some other design, simply peel off with no damage to your wall.

WIN-WIN!

Vinyl and Lino floors can have a very similar appearance – but the they are very different.
Vinyl floor is a synthetic product; it’s made from chemicals and plastics and other things.

Lino is all natural.  It’s made of friendly material such as cork, linseed oil, wood, flour tree resin and ground stone on a jute backing.

Lino is very durable and easy to clean.  It is easy to install and fairly inexpensive as far as flooring goes.

If wallpapering an entire room seems a little too much, consider just papering one wall or half a wall.

Even a small place inside a built in cabinet makes quite a statement by adding a small piece of wallpaper.

(( Pro Tip – Flooring and Wallpaper stores often have scrap pieces they sell at discounted prices if you only need a small amount. ))

Hey, I just now thought of this … why not cover the backsplash in your kitchen with Lino?  Hmmm, easy to install and cleans up well.  I may have to consider for my home.

Not only is Lino and Wallpaper guaranteed to create maximum impact, but it completely changes the feel of the room making a striking update.

Enjoy the 4 gorgeous Lino/Wallpaper pics I found online!

QUICK QUESTION
IF YOU WOKE UP AS YOUR 16-YEAR-OLD
SELF TOMORROW. WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

THE CONCERT

When the house lights dimmed and the concert was about to begin, the mother returned to her seat and discovered that her child was missing.

Suddenly, the curtains parted and spotlights focused on the impressive Steinway on stage.

In horror, the mother saw her little boy sitting at the keyboard, innocently picking out, “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.”

At that moment, the great piano master made his entrance, quickly moved to the piano, and whispered in the boy’s ear, “Don’t quit.  keep playing.”

Then, leaning over, Paderewski reached down with his left hand and began filling in the bass part.  Soon his right arm reached around to the other side of the child and he added a running obbligato.

Together, the old Master and the young novice transformed what could have been a frightening situation into a wonderfully creative experience.

The audience was so mesmerized that they couldn’t recall what else the master played.  Only the classic, Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.

The next time you set out to accomplish great feats — listen carefully.  You may hear the Master whispering in your ear, “Don’t quit.  Keep playing.”

May you feel His arms around you and know that His hands are there helping your feeble attempts into true masterpieces.

God doesn’t call the equipped, rather, He equips the called.

Life is more accurately measured by the lives you touch rather than the things you acquire.

Remember:  Never Quit.  Keep Playing.”

HOT ROAST BEEF
PARTY SANDWICHES

My Recipe card reads, “Updated version of a familiar type recipe that always uses ham, cheese and mustard.”

HERE’S HOW WE MAKE THESE LITTLE SANDWICHES
INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 2 x (9×25 ounce)  packages of dinner rolls
  • 2/3 cup peach or apricot preserves (I like Bonne Maman – little pricey but worth it for this little party sandwich presentation)
  • 1/2 cup Dijon mustard/mayonnaise blend (think 2/3 part good quality mayonnaise – like Dukes and 1/3 part good quality Dijon mustard) combined by fork or tiny wire whisk in a small bowl
  • 1 pound thinly sliced good quality deli roast beef, chopped
  • 3/4 pound thinly sliced deli Havarti cheese

NOW WE GET READY FOR ASSEMBLY ACTION:

  1. Heat finely chopped walnuts or pecans in a small nonstick skillet over medium-low heat, stirring frequently 5-6 minutes until lightly toasted.  Careful!  Gotta stir so they don’t get too toasty and burn
  2. Remove rolls from packages
  3. Do not separate rolls
  4. Cut roll pack in half, horizontally, creating 1 top and one bottom per package
  5. Spread peach or apricot preserves on cut side “top” of rolls
  6. Carefully sprinkle toasted walnuts or pecans.
  7. Spread mustard-mayonnaise blend on cuts side “bottom” of rolls
  8. Top with even amounts of chopped roast beef and slices of Havarti
  9. Grind a little salt and freshly ground pepper on top if you choose

NEXT

  • Cover meat/cheese roll bottom half with top half of rolls with peach or apricot preserves
  • Gently flip roll square over on a large piece of aluminum foil so that the fruit preserves side is down
  • Close up and loosely wrap all around with aluminum foil

BAKE AT 325*

  • For about 20-25 minutes until cheese is melted
  • Remove from oven and open foil
  • Let rest about 5 minutes
  • Slice roll/meat/cheese mixture into individual sandwiches

PRESENT LITTLE SANDWICHES ON A PLATTER OR LARGE SERVING PLATE

Add to platter – a pair of tongs – so guests can easily help themselves to individual sandwich(es) and place on pretty little cocktail napkins – thus eating these delicious little sandwiches totally hands-on style

Pretty pretty pretty Lino (I feel so cool saying that 😉 ) and Wallpaper art! Love both the nostalgia they evoke and the updated twist. Our house originally had both linoleum and wallpaper. We’ve changed it over the years but I totally love the idea of using wallpaper as an accent. Putting my thinking cap on. . .

I don’t even want to remember my sixteen year old self!!!

The Concert. What a sweet, heartwarming story. And what a remarkable gentlemen Paderewski.

Oh, sorry about your refrigerator but glad the story had a happy ending. Note to self – check my condenser coils!

    Happy happy weekend!

I love opening the Daymaker and finding each and every time this unbelievable Art. Today’s kitchen ART was over the top. Then on to Stacy asking when was the last time we thought of linoleum and wallpaper? Well, that would be my aunt and uncle’s home in Missouri. I can still see us kids running around in their large linoleum dining room and kitchen in our sock feet chasing and sliding. Now to the wallpaper. Yes, again at my aunt’s home. The neighbor women always pitched in to help one another. There was never money exchanged or hours kept just a “glad to help out” attitude. As for the possibility of wall paper in my home? I think yes. We have a large walk-in closet that has turned boring. I’m seriously thinking of experimenting on the one narrow vacant wall — WALLPAPER, Hooray!

I so remember the avacado green and gold lino wallpaper in my older relatives homes as well. I never thought I would revisit that style, but here we are! I love it! It all comes back around at some point. Thanks as always for commenting!
