Loaded Avocado Toast

LOADED AVOCADO TOAST, TRACY BECKERMAN’S HUMOR COLUMN ON SPAM MAIL, HEART STORY OF BILLY’S MISSION, FAVORITE DOG NAMES

Last day of July greetings all!  Hard to believe but 'tis true. Great read today. BEGINNING WITH: LESLIE ELMAN'S POP QUIZ + FASCINATING FACTS I sure didn't know, but now I (we) do. QUICK QUESTION 3 favorite dog names. I'm thinking most unusual/memorable I've come across: Stanley, who worked with us at Hippie Cowboy, had a pit bull named "Convict." One of the Grips we worked with on "Breaking Bad" had a rescue dog named "Chicken". A delightful wiggle-tail happy, well-behaved pal of everyone on Set.  And there was nothing chicken about him. And Peter's beloved childhood dog went by the name "Shorty." I have a pic of Shorty that Peter treasured.  Shorty was adorably not adorably attractive.  HA! Looking at the pic anyone can spot the sparkle of mischief/character/personality in his eyes + the stories Peter loved to tell. You? BILLY'S MISSION STORY Is a heart stealer - grab a kleenex. Once you read it -- likely -- won't forget it. Beautiful. ASSEMBLING LOADED AVOCADO TOAST
Wednesday Reader July 3

hello July 3

Howdy all!  Happy day before official Independence Day 2024! It's hot here!  But such is this time of year.  I run across people who seem to think this heat thing unusual.  I disagree. I'd be shocked if temps were in the 70's or 80's.  Just won't happen.  Never has as I recall.  Summer heat is on full throttle.  Gotta deal with it until Fall.  I remind myself to hydrate and find shade or air conditioning when possible and just deal with it.  No brainer, right?  Ha PRESENTING JULY 3rd WEDNESDAY READER: LESLIE ELMAN'S TRIVIA AND FASCINATING FACTS Are so interesting to me.  Frankly, super fascinating. QUICK QUESTION What's the most beautiful place I have personally seen? Hands down - the Grand Tetons.  You? COLLECTION OF OXYMORONS Are make-ya-look-think-scratch your head and chuckle!  Might you have another 1 or 2 to add to the list? EASY BUTTERMILK PIE RECIPE Slice of delish.  I like to top my slice of buttermilk pie with bananas.  But strawberries and peaches are stellar as well. Don't forget the fresh whipped cream.  Deal breaker if you don't (unless you just dislike fresh whipped cream - that would be absolutely crazy talk to me - ha!)

Wednesday greetings - Shazam (!) and just like that May has arrived! Time (weeks, months) seems to pass and sneak up fast. Presenting Wednesday Reader full of fun and fascination. Beginning with: LESLIE ELMAN'S TRIVIA AND FASCINATING FACTS Mittens + famous writers' being rejected + porcupines.  Intriguing. QUICK QUESTION I didn't or don't recall every having an imaginary friend as a kid.  However, I remember my grandma telling stories about Boo-Boo-Shorty - the imaginary friend my uncle had as a kid.  Funny!  Did you have an imaginary friend as a kid?

WEDNESDAY READER | MARCH 20

Wednesday greetings wondrous readers of Daymaker - Presenting a fabulous read today full of fun and awe-some! Beginning with Leslie Elman's Trivia Bits in both Pop Quiz and Fascinating Stuff Of course, I've heard/read about the Frescoes style painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel - but I couldn't visualize it so I did the Google thing and found  *a pic and a little backstory *  mind blowing!  Unbelievably breathtaking. And Sailfish can travel at speeds of 68 mph.  W-H-A-T ?!! QUICK QUESTION Are you double jointed anywhere?  My pinky finger on my right hand is double jointed. I remember that my dad was double jointed on all fingers on both hands.  As a kid that was, "WOW COOL" stuff. Are you, or know someone who is? THE SCHOLAR'S 4 QUESTION TALE Is a great read.  I've been pondering - and have come up with - a couple "morals to the story" sort of thing.  I love tales that make me think beyond the story itself. FRIED CATFISH WITH JALAPENO TARTAR SAUCE Is sooooooo good.  As I wrote in the recipe, we served it at Hippie Cowboy and customers were wild about it.  Our little secret that made it unique was that we used my grandma Miller's recipe for frying trout.  It's a must-make recipe if you're a fan of fried catfish.

Hey - Hey friends and 1st Monday of February. I'm still wondering how January peeled through so quickly.  You? So much fun I collected to share today. Beginning with The cool art illustration. It's so happy and totally brings back childhood memories to me - yes, we had these types of sleds and they were head-first-dare-devil fun.  The wooden "steering wheel" kinda-sorta steered the sled moving at what seemed like mach speed. We also had saucer "sleds" which absolutely resembled something the size of a big garbage can lid - but had handles and happy enameled painted artwork where we sat down and got ready to fly down the hill. They were crazy fast and whirly-twirly - no controlling which way the saucer would go.  We just held on and giggled and screamed.  Better than a ride at the fair. I will say -- I think my sisters and my favorite "sled" was a big ol' inner tube.  Think tire inner tube from a big working truck - not - from a domestic vehicle.  These inner tube slider "sleds" slid fast, fast, fast!  No controlling what the inner tube wanted to do either.  Ha! We got bucked off plenty of times, pulled the inner tube back to the top of the hill for another white-knuckle-ride-and-slide down the hill. I don't recall ever getting too cold because we were having such giant fun!

Beginning with -- CREATIVE CHRISTMAS TREE ideas I don't have a favorite.  They're all blue ribbon original greatness to me. INTERESTING PHOTOS is better than scrolling through whatever's on Google feed today.  Can you believe how GIANT the anchor chain of the Titanic was?  Or how thick one (just one) of the cables is that holds up the Golden Gate Bridge?  Crazy! OFFICE ANTICS had me smiling big time.  Pretty sure offices could sure use some harmless fun to keep the 9-5 shift a little more interesting. AI VISUALIZING ALL 50 U.S. STATES as Hunger Game contestants had me scrolling through -- first of all with my home state and my now home state and checking out states my friends live in or came from.  Pretty spot on. RECIPES! HOMEMADE MARSHMALLOWS still time to "whip up" something special in the kitchen for gift giving or impress guests during this "brrr time" of year.  Wonder how these homemade marshmallows would work with the favorite Rice Krispie Treats?  It's a must read through the entire recipe to see all the cool variations etc ... super interesting.

Greetings happy Readers - How was your week?  'Twas quite warm here.  And wet.  Rain showers on a daily basis in late afternoon. I got numerous tasks accomplished over the weekend which always feels good. One biggie was pulling out and removing a very large root ball of what was once a gorgeous bamboo plant that grew (very isolated) in a galvenized container on my back deck. I think the freeze was just too much for it - RIP. So now that the root ball is gone - I can home something else large and fun in the cool horse trough planter. ** Interesting - none of the nurseries around here carry bamboo any more.  I totally get why.  But I'd sure like to plant another bamboo in the container.  It was cool and tall and floaty. ** Presenting the 12 fun + funny + great recipe finds + fascinating picks for today. The Boston Typewriter Orchestra performance is just SO. MUCH. FUN. Candid Camera's, "You've been Downgraded" is hilarious.
